Automotive Aftermarket Liason Group
A number of trade organisations operating in the independent automotive aftermarket meet regularly, but informally, to discuss matters of common interest. In so doing they increase the effectiveness of their activities and often find means of achieving a common end without costly duplication of effort. This group is known as the Automotive Aftermarket Liaison Group – the AALG.
Over the first 16 years of its existence, the chairmanship and secretariat of the AALG rotated between the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT), the Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) (Formerly the Automotive Distribution Federation - ADF), and the Independent Garage Association (IGA). For 2014/5 that role has now been assumed by the Vehicle Builders and Repairers Association’s (VBRA) where Malcolm Tagg currently acts as secretariat.
Broadly the objectives of the group are:
- Facilitate the exchange of information between associations/groups on subjects affecting their members
- Forum for discussion with third parties whose activities affect the independent aftermarket
- Address issues on which collaborative action on behalf of the independent aftermarket would be more successful than individual uncoordinated action by each association/group.
